Therapeutic Horsemanship

Therapeutic horsemanship offers a valuable experience for individuals of all ages, including children, teenagers, and adults, who face various cognitive, emotional, physical and developmental challenges, such as autism, PTSD, depression, and cerebral palsy. Each 30 minute private or 45 minute semi-private session is personalized to suit the needs of the rider. Our team creates lesson plans using a mix of activities and arena patterns designed to improve posture, focus and provide a sense of achievement. Riders are supported by trained staff with a lead line, volunteers walking alongside them and specially trained horses to ensure safety. Depending on the rider's abilities, they will learn to guide the horse and control its movement. These sessions help develop communication and decision-making skills.

Horses for Heroes - Veterans Outreach

Horses of Hope Oregon is honored to offer a free program to our community veterans. A healing and gratifying experience, working through visible and invisible wounds of service. Combining horsemanship and equine facilitated learning creates a unique program for veterans looking for community and support. The ten-week program gives the veteran an opportunity to spend time developing a relationship with their horse and learning new skills to be applied to their every day life. We are grateful for all the sacrifices veterans have made for us and are excited to have the opportunity to partner with them.

Community Partnerships

Our hands-on, experiential programs emphasize working with horses to foster self-awareness and develop essential life skills. Participants work with the horses on the ground, honing critical thinking through tasks that involve sequencing, decision-making, and problem-solving. By observing the horses' behavior, participants gain valuable insights that they can apply to their own lives. We partner with local agencies and schools, including the Salem-Keizer School District, to design and tailor programs that provide a distinctive and transformative experience with horses.
